HEA Credit Union Bank Robbery - ARREST MADE!

On Monday, May 6, 2013 at 2:18 P.M. officers of the Warner Robins Police Department responded to 121 Osigian Boulevard, HEA Credit Union, in reference to a robbery.

Preliminary investigation revealed a male walked into the business, handed the teller a note demanding money, and the fled the business on foot.

No injuries were reported.

The Warner Robins Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is investigating this incident. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Mark Wright at 478-929-6906.

UPDATE

On Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 5:47 P.M. officers of the Warner Robins Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Anthony Bartley (35 years old, Warner Robins) at the 500-block of Smithville Church Road. He was taken into custody without incident.

Bartley is charged with Robbery by Intimidation and is at the Houston County Jail.

This incident remains under investigation.

Special Olympics Torch Run

Members of the Warner Robins Police Department will be participating in the annual Special Olympic Torch Run on Wednesday, May 8, 2013.

The Torch Run is designed to raise awareness about the Special Olympics in our community. The Special Olympics promotes building self esteem and confidence in special needs citizens.

The route will start at the Warner Robins Law Enforcement Center at 9:00 A.M. and continue down Watson Boulevard. The run will end at the Galleria Mall parking lot in Centerville.

Motorists are asked to use caution on Watson Boulevard due to the traffic delays associated with this event.

Bank Robbery Incident - Suspect Photographs Included

Burglary Arrests

On Friday, May 3, 2013 at 4:34 A.M. officers of the Warner Robins Police Department were dispatched to 514 North Davis Drive (Pop’s Food Mart) in reference to a burglary in progress.

While en route to the business, officers were advised the male seen exiting the closed store got inside a vehicle with another person and left the area. Officers were given a description of the car and were able to make contact with it at the intersection of Chris Drive and Ignico Drive.

After a brief struggle the male, identified as James Wesley Morgan (35 years old, Warner Robins), was taken into custody. The female passenger, identified as Lisa Marie Roberts (32 years old, Warner Robins), was also taken into custody.

James Wesley Morgan was charged with Burglary, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude, Open Container Violation in Motor Vehicle, Remove/Affixing License Plate With Intent To Conceal, Obstruction of An Officer, Reckless Driving, and Driving While License Expired in connection with this incident.

Lisa Marie Roberts (32 years old, Warner Robins) was charged with Party To The Crime of Burglary in connection with this incident.

The Warner Robins Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is investigating this incident. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Justin Clark at 478-918-2980.

Traffic Advisory For Warner Robins Law Enforcement Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Warner Robins Law Enforcement Center will be held tomorrow. Here are a few traffic advisories to be aware of:

10:00 A.M. - 11:15 A.M.:
North Armed Forces Boulevard (Formerly N 1st Street) is closed to all traffic.

A pedestrian crosswalk will be located on a section of Watson Boulevard in front of the Law Enforcement Center.

Traffic control will be in place at these areas.

Please use caution when driving in this area.

Traffic Collision

On Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 4:25 A.M. officers from the Warner Robins Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Houston Lake Boulevard and Watson Boulevard in reference to a traffic collision.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Warner Robins Police Department patrol vehicle, operated by Officer James Dubry, collided with a Mazda Minivan, operated by a 34-year-old female, at the intersection.

Both drivers were taken to the Houston Medical Center for treatment.

The collision is being investigated by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. Any additional information will be released through their agency.

Officer Helps Educate Family About Child Safety Restraints

Another great story about one of our officers serving our community!

"Regarding a recent request for a report during a traffic incident (fender-bender), I would like to inform you on how your Officer David Hale responded.

Officer Hale was very professional and very informative to our family. Although we considered our approach to protecting our 16 month old son in a car seat generally secure, Office Hale offered more information concerning our baby's protection.

He adamantly demonstrated the proper methods to secure the car seat using the seat belt, and he explained why these techniques were important. I was VERY appreciative of his informative demeanor. We did learn that most of what he told us was probably included in the instructions for the car seat, but who reads instructions for car seats……:):)

He also informed us on general information about purchasing car seats and accessories.   This was a very impressive experience. Again, thank you Officer Hale!"

Protecting Yourself From Identity Theft - Starting With Your Mailbox!

We have had a couple of reports come in from people having mail stolen out of their mailbox.

Protecting your identity through your mailbox is often overlooked when taking steps to protect yourself against identity theft.

Here are some suggestions:

Do not leave you mail in your mailbox for an extended period of time.
If you have documents you need to mail - drop them off at a Post Office instead of letting them sit in your mailbox for an extended period of time. Avoid letting mail pile up in your box for several days or over the weekend.

Use a mailbox that locks.
Consider investing in a locking mailbox if you want the convenience of putting documents in your mailbox. Mail can still be placed inside the box but can only be removed with a key.

Rent a Post Office mailbox.
The safest way to have your mail delivered is to rent a mailbox from a Postal carrier. Your mail will go directly from the postal workers to your box without the risk of someone else taking it.

Protecting Yourself From Identity Theft - With Your Purse!

Many times people become identity theft victims because someone has stolen their purse. Criminals can find identification, credit cards, and other pertinent information inside.

Shopping in a store with children, cell phones, and other distractions can lead to forgetting your purse or wallet at the checkout or in the grocery cart.

Here are some tips to help minimize distractions and protect your property from criminals:

Never leave your purse/wallet unattended in shopping carts.
Many times criminals look for people who are focused on shopping or other distractions and take the purse or wallet from the cart. You look back and your purse/wallet is gone with no one around.

TIP: If you have a purse - loop the child safety strap through the purse shoulder straps. Be sure that your purse is zipped or snapped shut.

Make sure you have your purse/wallet before you leave the store or put your cart back.
It's easy to get distracted when you're trying to get out of the store. Children, packages, cell phones, etc. can distract you from picking up your purse/wallet before you get in the car and drive off.

TIP: Get into the habit of slowing down and checking to make sure you have all of your valuables before you leave the store or parking lot.

Officers Help Couple Who Came Home To A Not So Pleasant Surprise

We always appreciate positive feedback! We received this very kind email yesterday about Officer Adam Mitchell and the rest of the Squad 3 patrol officers.

"When my wife and I returned home from celebrating our one-year anniversary, we found three police cars in front of our home. An intruder, who had been arrested shortly earlier at another location, had kicked open our door and taken several of our possessions.

Officer Mitchell, as well as the other officers on the scene whose names I unfortunately did not obtain, were very friendly, professional and helpful. They explained what happened to me and my wife and put our minds at ease.

We thank Officer Mitchell and his colleagues for their hard work keeping our town safe."

WRPD Traffic Officer Hale and Spokesperson Tabitha Pugh dropped by STARBASE Robins to speak with the kids about their jobs and answer questions about the police department.

The STARBASE Robins program is designed to reach underrepresented and underserved students in Georgia. It strives to peek students' interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). They provide students with a unique STEM curricula that includes hands-on activities in Physics, Chemistry, Technological advances, Engineering, and Mathematical operations.

On Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 7:46 P.M. officers of the Warner Robins Police Department were dispatched to 106 Huntwood Lane in reference to a domestic.

While enroute officers were advised the husband was in possession of a gun and was threatening his wife.

Officers approached the residence and shots were exchanged between the male and the officers.

The male was pronounced deceased at the residence by medical personnel. One of the officers received minor injuries.

This incident has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

2013 Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Fundraiser

The Warner Robins Police Department is proud to participate in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics this May.

Each year members of our agency either run or bike in the Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise awareness about the Special Olympics in our community.

The Special Olympics is about building self-esteem and confidence in special needs citizens. 85,000 law enforcement officers from 35 nations participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run each year. We are proud to be counted among that number.

We are selling 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run hats, shirts, and lanyards to help support our local athletes.

Last year we raised $1,500.00 and we hope to surpass that amount for this year’s Torch Run.

Internal Affairs Investigator Retires After 25 Years of Service

Lieutenant Bobby Brantley retires today after 25 years of service with the Warner Robins Police Department.

Lieutenant Brantley has served as the Internal Affairs Investigator for the past several years.

He has been an asset to this agency and will be missed.

We believe in training our employees to the highest possible educational and professional standards.

One officer coordinates the training hours for each employee and gives in service classes several times a year.

The Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (GA POST) requires each officer to receive at least 20 hours of training per year to retain certification.

Last year Warner Robins Police Department employees received a total of 14,416 training hours.

The division is also responsible for Citizens Range Day that occurs every third Saturday of the month. 1,045 people participated last year.

Documenting ammunition and firearms are also a big part of the division. 42,306 rounds of ammunition was used by our agency in 2012.

Criminalistics In 2012

The Criminalistics Division is responsible for the collection, comparison, and interpretation of physical evidence found at crime scenes or collected from suspects and victims.

The division offers the services of latent print and footwear examinations, crime scene processing and reconstruction, photography, drug identification, and computer forensics.

In 2012 Criminalistics investigators:

took 17,659 crime scene photographs
processed 2,048 pieces of evidence
evaluated 2,504 latent prints
assisted in 20 incidents involving other agencies

New Addition to Police 2 Citizen

Bike Registration

Citizens now have the opportunity to register their bicycles with the Warner Robins Police Department.

In 2012 - over 130 bicycles were turned into the agency without owner information.

Registering your bicycle with our agency will provide us with the necessary information so that if your bike is ever stolen, we would have a record of the serial number if you call to make a report.

Documented serial numbers increase the chances of your stolen bicycle being returned to you.
