Traffic Accident Involving Pedestrian

On Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at approximately 7:27AM officers responded to the intersection of Wellborn Road and Jackson Street in reference to a Motor Vehicle Accident Involving a Pedestrian. 

An 11 year old child riding a bicycle to school was struck while at the crosswalk by a 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by 45 year old Denise Jenkins. The driver of the vehicle disregarded the crossing guard in the area and struck the child. 

The child was talking and alert before being transported to The Medical Center Navicent Health. After an evaluation at the hospital, officers learned the child did not suffer any major injuries. 


Jenkins was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Disregard of a Person Directing Traffic, Driving Under the Wrong Class of License, and Defective Equipment.
