At approximately 7:38PM officers responded to a residence on the 600 block of Maplewood Drive in reference to multiple shots fired with one victim.
When officers arrived they found 29 year old Natasha Alexandra Reyes deceased with multiple gun shot wounds inside the residence.
The suspect, 38 year old Rodney Wayne Helms was apprehended at the EZ Food Mart located at 516 Feagin Mill Road a short time later. He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder. Additional charges are possible.
At this time, detectives believe they knew each other prior to the incident. Evidence collected suggests Helms was brought to Reyes home by a friend. The three spent some time together at the residence before the shooting occurred.
According to the evidence acquired, the motive for the shooting is Armed Robbery. Detectives believe Helms was attempting to rob Reyes when the shooting occurred.
The photo of Rodney Wayne Helms released by our department was the only one available through our computer system. The booking photo taken by the Houston County jail system shows Helms sustained injuries to his face. Body worn camera footage shows that Helms received those injuries prior to his arrest and prior to making contact with our officers. Detectives are still investigating how Helms was injured.
