Sights, Sounds, and....Dogs?!

The Fourth of July holiday is filled with sights, sounds, and lots of fireworks.  Your dogs, however, may not exactly be right in front of your radar screen for the holiday.  The Warner Robins Animal Control Division would like you to know that a trend is developing that is related to lost dogs and fireworks. 

A dog's sense of hearing is extremely sensitive compared to a human's ability to hear.  Many times the sights and sounds of fireworks and other types of explosives can frighten dogs and cause them to get away from their owner and their home.   

Here are some helpful tips to keep your furry friend close to your side while celebrating this holiday season:

1. Keep your pets indoors while fireworks are being set off around your neighborhood
2. Make sure your pets have a collar and secured identification tags in case they do runaway
3. Try to let your pet go outside to use the bathroom before it gets dark
4. Be sure your pet is on a leash if you take them outside during any type of fireworks.  If the pet gets too spooked please take them inside. 

Remember that fireworks are sold weeks before and after the Fourth of July holiday.  Always remember to keep aware of your surroundings and your pet.
