WR Animal Control Receives $7,500 Grant

UPDATE - We had great success with this program!  The grant is no longer available due to many people who took advantage of this offer!  

The Civilian Board of Warner Robins Animal Control is currently looking for new ways to help fund a program similar to the grant.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2013 Warner Robins Animal Control received a Spay and Neuter Grant from the Georgia Department of Agriculture for $7,500.

The Georgia Dog and Cat Sterilization Program is funded through Dog and Cat Sterilization Auto Tag purchases along with donations that are tax deductible. 

In an effort to promote adoptions – anyone who adopts from the Warner Robins Animal Control facility on the third Saturday of the month will have the spay or neuter procedure funded through the grant.

The program begins on June 15, 2013.

Requirements:

$20.00 adoption fee

Animals must be adopted during the third Saturday of month

The spay or neuter procedure must be performed at Critter Fixer Veterinary Hospital (102 Starlight Drive, Bonaire) or Southwood Animal Hospital (2523 Moody Road, Warner Robins)

Ordinance 17-90
(a) Any person adopting a dog or cat from the Warner Robins Animal Shelter shall have the animal sterilized by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days after acquisition of such animal in the case of an adult or within 30 days of sexual maturity of the animal in the case of an immature animal; provided, however, the requirements of this section shall not apply to any privately owned animal which the Warner Robins Animal Shelter may have in its possession for any reason if the owner of such animal claims or presents evidence that such animal is the property of such person.”

Warner Robins Animal Control is open every third Saturday of the month from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM and is located at 208 Stalnaker Avenue in Warner Robins.

Silent Auction To Benefit WR Animal Control

The Warner Robins Police Department Animal Control Division is hosting a silent auction featuring two original art pieces by Butler and Anthony Brown.

Butler Brown gained nationwide attention when one of his oil paintings hung inside the White House during the administration of former President Jimmy Carter.  Mr. Brown and his art were featured in popular magazines such as Newsweek, ARTnews, and People. 

Anthony Brown, son of Butler Brown, is a graduate of Savannah College Art and Design.  Mr. and His wife Penne are the owners of Butler Brown Gallery and Custom Framing.

Bidding for the two art pieces will continue until Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Butler Brown Gallery at 1849 Watson Boulevard.  The gallery is located behind the Chick-Fil-A restaurant. 

The money from the final bid will be applied toward the funding of spay/neuter procedures for animals from the Warner Robins Animal Control facility adopted by local animal rescue groups. 

This year’s silent auction will be the third year Mr. Brown and his family have partnered with the Warner Robins Police Department to help promote animal adoption and responsible pet ownership.

Cruelty to Animals Arrest

On Saturday, September 1, 2012 officers responded to 219 Ward Street in reference to cruelty to animals.

Preliminary investigation supported a witness account that Miranda Delphine Thomas (52 years of age, Warner Robins) beat her dog with a club.  The officers observed the dog to have several visible injuries. 

Thomas was arrested and charged with Cruelty to Animals (Felony).  She was transported to the Houston County Jail. 

The Warner Robins Animal Control Division transported to the dog to a veterinarian to treat his injuries.  

Rescues & Runways Donation Event

Maurices store is collecting donations and pet supplies to benefit the Warner Robins Animal Control Division in September for their Rescues and Runways event.

The program was created by Maurices with the goal to include pet adoptions and give support to local animal control facilities and shelters.  Over 780 store locations participate in the event with pet theme fashion shows and donation drives.

Those who donate will receive a coupon valid at Maurices. 

While no donations will be turned away, there are some specific needs listed below that have been requested by Warner Robins Animal Control.

Warner Robins Animal Control Temporarily Closed

Warner Robins Animal Control will be closed until Wednesday, August 15, 2012 due to a parvo case.

The animals currently housed at the facility will be quarantined and observed until it reopens on August 15^th.  The building will be closed to the public during this time.   

Adoptions and animal intake will resume once the building has reopened.  Animal Control officers will be responding to calls for service involving vicious and injured animals during the quarantine.

Look Who We Ran Into The Other Day...

It's true what they say - every day in law enforcement is a new adventure.  You never know what challenges you face each day.

Officers were faced with a big challenge last week in terms of an alligator near the Warner Robins Animal Control facility off Highway 247.  Animal control officers, along with the help of the Training Division, were able to round him up without incident.

Sights, Sounds, and....Dogs?!

The Fourth of July holiday is filled with sights, sounds, and lots of fireworks.  Your dogs, however, may not exactly be right in front of your radar screen for the holiday.  The Warner Robins Animal Control Division would like you to know that a trend is developing that is related to lost dogs and fireworks. 

A dog's sense of hearing is extremely sensitive compared to a human's ability to hear.  Many times the sights and sounds of fireworks and other types of explosives can frighten dogs and cause them to get away from their owner and their home.   

Here are some helpful tips to keep your furry friend close to your side while celebrating this holiday season:

1. Keep your pets indoors while fireworks are being set off around your neighborhood
2. Make sure your pets have a collar and secured identification tags in case they do runaway
3. Try to let your pet go outside to use the bathroom before it gets dark
4. Be sure your pet is on a leash if you take them outside during any type of fireworks.  If the pet gets too spooked please take them inside. 

Remember that fireworks are sold weeks before and after the Fourth of July holiday.  Always remember to keep aware of your surroundings and your pet.
